One of the cool things about cooking is those cool little discoveries, that yield a new result.

Baked Falafel Flavoured Chips

It can be an ingredient you have been using for years, then someone discovers a brilliant new way to use it, and a whole new dish is born.

And what’s even more fun about that is that these days, whenever someone has a good idea, it can be shared around the world within days with the lovely help of the internet.

So.. The vegan groups are over a recipe for what they call “vegan bacon” for a few days now, so I had to try. Personally I never tasted bacon so I don’t have a basis for the comparison, but it is tasty and so crunchy, so I had to play around with the idea some more and create some other chips.

You can find the original recipe here if you desire to give a try to the bacon flavorings, in any case using the rice sheets this way is just a really fantastic basis for different flavorings. I went for falafel style, but really feel free to go wild with the flavorings here. If you have young kids around, and you are not afraid to mess up the counter a lot, this can also be a fun game for them: cut the rice sheets, dip in warm water, dip in the marinade, and put in the pan.

סוג מתכון: snack
מנות: depends on the number of rice sheets used
מרכיבים
  • a few rice sheets according to the number of diners
  • 2 table spoons chickpee flour
  • 2 table spoons olive oil
  • 2-3 table spoons water (plus about 1 cup for dipping the rice sheets in)
  • 1 tea spoon dried parsley
  • ½ tea spoon dried cumin
  • ½ tea spoon smoked paprika
  • ½ tea soon salt
הוראות הכנה
  1. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a tall bowl.
  2. Prepare another bowl with warm water.
  3. Cut the rice sheets into about 2 cm wide slices.
  4. Take one rice sheet slice, dip it in the water for a few seconds, lift the strip out of the water with one hand and gently squeeze it free of water with the other hand. This prevents diluting the marinade and makes it stick better to the rice paper. Hold at the end of the strip, dip it all the way into the marinade and pull it up again. Place on a pan and put in an oven pre-heated to 200 C for about 7-9 minutes (watch it so it doesn't burn!).
